Tone name
In the Chinese and Vietnamese languages, tone names are the names given to the tones these languages use.
- In Chinese, tone names are given in terms of the four tones, namely level (Chinese: 平; pinyin: píng), rising (Chinese: 上; pinyin: shǎng), departing (Chinese: 去; pinyin: qù), and entering (Chinese: 入; pinyin: rù), as well as dark (Chinese: 陰; pinyin: yīn) and light (Chinese: 陽; pinyin: yáng), and high (Chinese: 高; pinyin: gāo) and low (Chinese: 低; pinyin: dī).
- Standard Vietnamese has six tones, known as ngang (or bằng), sắc, huyền, hỏi, ngã, and nặng tones.
